Ahh debt … can’t live with it, can’t live without it. Especially when it comes to running a small business.
Understanding and effectively managing business debt is such an important component of a small business journey for growth and success. While the term "debt" may often carry a negative connotation, I always say, it’s not debt that’s the problem, but rather the management of it.
When managed strategically, it can serve as a powerful tool for expanding operations, investing in opportunities, and ultimately moving your business forward. With cash flow focus greater than ever, I wanted to take this opportunity to explore the different types of business debt, discuss how it can be used for growth, and highlight the importance of strict debt management. A single, unassuming envelope lay upon the dusty table, its presence invoking a sense of foreboding in the unsuspecting occupant. Trembling hands reached out, clutching the dreaded missive tightly, as beads of sweat formed on a furrowed brow. A chilling silence.” …

EP133 : Where is the regulation around revenue claims?
I was recently asked by a business owner whether I guaranteed any type of financial results from my programs … you know the ones I’m talking about .. the promise of $10k months, 5 figure results, 8 figure businesses.
The short answer … no I don’t.
I would never ethically promise, let alone guarantee that these would be the results from ANY program I had to offer. Does that mean I don’t stand by the results my programs have to offer … certainly not! But here’s the thing …
Let me remind you, 8 figure businesses make more than $10m in turnover a year. By definition, a small business is defined as having an annual turnover of $10m or LESS. Now let me ask you, if you were earning $10m a year OR more, would you be on Facebook looking for services? I bet not!
So why would these “experts” waste their money advertising on Facebook in Business Groups that are typically filled with small business owners??
It’s time to call bullshit and start to understand the real dangers in these claims and why we continually get disappointed by these “so-called” coaches giving those qualified a bad name.… A x

Have you ever thought about how your current behaviours can predict your future behaviours? It's a fascinating concept to explore. Our habits and actions are not just isolated events, but rather a reflection of our deeper beliefs and values.
What we do today can have a significant impact on who we become tomorrow. It's like a ripple effect that starts with one small action and can grow into something much larger.
Of course, there are many factors that can influence our behaviour, such as our environment, the way we grew up .. our social circles. But ultimately, we have the power to shape our own futures by intentionally identifying these behaviours and making different choices by prioritising different values.

Humour me for a moment … close your eyes. Imagine what life would be like for you if you didn’t have to worry about your money. I’m not asking you to imagine an abundance of money … I’m asking you to imagine if you didn’t have to worry about it. You knew you could pay your bills on time, you had enough left over to reinvest and buy more stock or god forbid pay yourself a wage … what would that be like?
Now open your eyes … does it look like that?
I had a client tell me that for the first time since starting her business, she was so excited that she got to have a weekend without stressing about money. Did she suddenly have an abundance of money? No .. was she suddenly booked out? No … what she did have was a strategy that she was committed to, that provided her with the calm she needed to have a weekend without thinking about work. But it wasn’t until just recently I was asked a question that stopped me in my tracks … “Are you successful in your business” … A seemingly simple question .. yet for some reason I found myself with more questions than the one I was being asked. It made me pause …
Not because I didn’t know the answer, but more because I was curious as to why they wanted to know. Or even, what prompted them to ask? Was it a perception thing (did I not present as successful enough in their opinion) or was it something more.

Not because I think it’s a cool quote, but because I know how well it works, especially in business. A habit that is hard to get started but one you’ll thank yourself for once you have. And it’s that .. a habit, a very good one I might add, and not just one reserved for your personal life.

Whilst access to “things” is easier than ever before, this may not necessarily be a good thing all the time. As I watch on as my son is constantly influenced on a daily basis for the need to “have” … the constant “no’s” from me don’t bode well for him as he tries to create a life he sees others living … It had me thinking about the balance needed to even this tug-o-war out and how more than ever it has become critical to teach our kids about responsible spending, saving, and budgeting. I was once told that the simple path to growth is a willingness to reinvest profits back into a business.
What I wasn’t told was just how much of the profit I need to reinvest back. And perhaps that was the point … just like much of what I do now in my business and the coaching programs I have developed for my clients, understanding just how much to reinvest back into the business by way of profits is really dependant upon the goals of the business owner and of course the greater goals of the business itself.

EP113 : 4 tips to maintaining a healthy cashflow
One of the biggest misconceptions I’ve found when it comes to talking about cashflow with business owners, is the idea that cashflow is all about income.

So whilst it is about income, it is also about expenses AND more so whether they align at the right time to facilitate the movement as it’s required. You get this right, then you have a very healthy cashflow my friend.
Broad as that may be, here are 4 specific tips to creating and maintaining a healthy cashflow for your business … grab a pen because I have a 5th one at the end of the episode which is truly transformative that you’re gonna want to know about … Take a listen. A x

EP112 : Are you ready for 2023? I wasn’t at first, but ...
Here we are, day …. I don’t actually know, into 2023 and I feel like a have a hangover. My original topic that I’d planned for my first episode back was literally all about “Are you ready for 2023” .. Only to find myself not so ready. Is that a bad thing? Should I not be sharing that?
There was no big bang for me as the year started, no new year fresh feeling nor that immediate desire to get back behind my keyboard … 2022 was a tough year for so many reasons in my world, so as I find myself several days into the new year, I think I was confusing the overwhelming desire to leave 2022 behind with being ready for the speed at which 2023 has come at me.
But it’s forced me to question what 2023 will actually look like and how I will get myself ready for it … take a listen. A x

EP111 : What I learned in 2022
When I think back to how I felt when 2021 finally ended, there was hope, relief and a sense of trepidation for the unknown that I’d never felt before. What was 2022 going to be like on the back of the mess that was left in the wake of COVID.
What did that mean for small business, for business in general … for my business? But even bigger than that … what did that mean for life in general .. After what could only be described as somewhat of a shit show … I remained hopeful.
Enter, 2022 … what a year! For what it’s worth … here’s what I learned … here is my take on it. A x

EP110 : Techniques that have helped me be more decisive and get shit done
There is something freeing about the stroke of midnight on new years eve that I love. It almost feels like a right of passage to start again and use the fresh start to do it all better next time. It comes with a promise of hope and freedom that as a business owner, makes me feel empowered and ready in a way.
This year has felt hard, and so I’m really looking forward to this moment. And whilst I know it’s only another day … there is something about it.
So how can we use this moment and change in year to get more decisive in our business to get out of our own way, get on with it and go into 2023 with the right tools to make it count?

EP109 : 6 Ways to pocket more profit
The conundrum … we work hard, we strive to generate more income in our business and then ultimately more income for ourselves … only to find that the more we tend to make, often results in seemingly having less of it in the end. How is this even possible?
We teeter back and forth asking ourselves where all the money we make is going, with no real understanding how we were able to transition to making more yet having less of it to use. Are we simply spending more to make more? Or are we not paying enough attention to how we can make more without eating into the profits …
Here are 6 ways you can pocket more of your hard earned money in profit, whilst running a successful business. Check them out here. A x

EP108 : Why don’t we invest in ourselves as Women?
For anyone who knows me, knows I love a good quote … and one that I keep in my back pocket for daily inspiration is one from the formidable Sheryl Sandberg.
Sheryl wrote the book “Lean in” and she was quoted as saying “We hold ourselves back in ways both big and small, by lacking self-confidence, by not raising our hands, and by pulling back when we should be leaning in.”
I was reminded of this just recently when a fellow female business owner reached out to me desperately ready to let go of her past financial habits that had been holding her back, and move into a financial future that created opportunity and growth for her business.
I was impressed by her clarity in knowing what she wanted and her willingness to get started. And then she didn’t … well, not at first. Find out why … take a listen. A x

Being a mum and running a business has its challenges on my every day schedule. Being a mum with a child who has special needs … adds a special kind of element to each day that I have no choice but to work with.
But I have found over time, that for me, the more organised I am in the morning … the more tasks I can perform before my son even wakes for the day, the better the day seems to runs for me.
Whilst it hasn’t been easy adapting to the 5am starts … the benefits it has afforded me definitely outweighs the difficulties. Here is just a snippet of what has worked for me … Take a listen. A x

‘Tis the season … is upon us my friend. Well it will be in the blink of an eye … Whilst it’s a time to celebrate regardless of what industry you are in … you need to still be fully aware of the impact this time of the year can have on your business.
There are many ways you can use this time now to start to prepare for being in the thick of the silly season, so I thought I’d use this episode to outline some ways to ensure you can go celebrate without the weight of being a business owner and the stresses that may come with that at this time of year… come join me. Debt … a vehicle by which a business can purchase assets they wouldn’t otherwise have been able to afford immediately, to help grow their business.
If chosen and managed correctly, good debt can generate and should generate, more value or money than the debt itself would cost. But when getting into debt, the intent is to eventually get yourself out of it … and therefore, whether it’s good debt or not, you still need a strategy to get out of it. EP104 : How to avoid burnout as a business owner
Burn out … a state of mental and physical exhaustion caused through mismanagement of time and continued workplace stress. Burn out … a place of feeling zapped of any energy, mental distance and the inability to keep going. …
Sound familiar? It certainly does to me .. when I first started out in business with a new born, I thought I could continue to work as I’d always done so. My body made me very much aware that wasn’t going to be the case. Regardless of how much I tried to push through … I couldn’t escape it. EP103 : Money is a tool to either boost you financially or ruin you. Which do you choose?
Whilst they say that money can’t buy you happiness, we can all agree that having more of it comes with its own perks. You see … we are lucky because we all have access to more money if we want it. But here is the catch .. money is just a tool.
You have the choice whether you will use the money available to you to build yourself up financially, or use it to ruin yourself financially.
The best thing about this is that you get to decide … you are completely in charge of that decision. But with great power comes great responsibility … and in this case, the outcome of this decision depends on how you execute it … let me explain. A x

EP102 : Are you coachable? Really?
If I had a dollar for every post I scrolled past on social media that asked for a coach or mentor of some sort, scrolling social media would be a lucrative career.
The term coach .. simply a person who instructs or trains another.
But can all those who seek a coach or mentor be coached, or more so, are they ready to be coached or trained in their business?
To take on a coach or mentor in your business means you need to be ready to not only see the amazing transformations you and your business are about to receive, but realistically it means you need to be ready to work harder than you’ve ever worked before on something that won’t come naturally to you, to get the results you so desire. EP100 : Being vulnerable
When I set out to start this podcast, never did I imagine it would get to it’s 100th episode 🎉🥂.
This little ‘ol podcast really has become my business baby. So for this my 100th episode I wanted to open the doors to my world even further and tap into the vulnerability of what it’s taken for me to get here and stay here.
Picture this if you will .. Here I am, fresh out of my successful corporate career … Heading into my second year in my own coaching business. Finding myself already with a wait list of clients because my current placements were full. All this with a new beautiful baby boy in toe, and a loving and supportive partner cheering me on. Life was good. It was fast and full, I could see clearly what the future would look like, feel like, be like. I was confident in this space, because working was important to me for my individual identity and there was nothing going to stop me. Until I heard the words “Your baby has had a stroke”.

EP99 : Afterpay : A credit disaster or a great budgeting tool?
In a world where we can communicate without speaking, send coordinates of where we are at the drop of a pin, find something that’s lost by pinging it … it’s no wonder we were going to evolve to ensure we had what we wanted to buy long before we had to pay for it, without the upfront commitment of interest like a credit card arrangement … enter Afterpay.
Afterpay … with over 16 million users currently worldwide ... it's the new lay-by system of our time modified to cater to the age of instant everything. For those who aren’t aware of what Afterpay is, it is a payment system that allows consumers to receive their goods now, in exchange for a direct debit commitment of fortnightly payments over 4 equal instalments, completely interest free.

EP98 : Business owner bookkeeping and how to make it easy on yourself
I see more and more business owners finding it useful to have the bookkeeping of their business either done in their business, or done specifically by themselves. This may be a money saving thing, or it could be an attempt to get closer to their numbers. As a financial coach, I’d like to think it’s motivated by the later … but I can’t say for certain. There is more to getting to know your numbers than it just being an attempt to keep ones head above the water so to speak … With the economy the way it is, every decision and every movement of cash matters.
Whatever the motivation, there is one thing that is consistent … that is that business owners want more control of it, and to learn more about how to best manage this so that they can get back to doing what they love. Because let’s face it … it’s ain’t the sexiest job we do as business owners. But definitely one that we can all agree needs to be done.
So I wanted to take a moment in this episode to provide some strategies on how to make this easier on yourself, improve the efficiency to getting it done and most importantly to ensure that the information is accurate and timely. And who doesn't want that! Take a listen. A x

EP97 : Stop the cash bleeding out of your business
I remember once being told that “Failure is an inescapable part of life and a critically important part of any successful life”. Throughout everything I have ever done in my life, I refuse to accept failure as something that is final, but rather something that has a lesson to be learned. And if I’m being totally honest, I don’t like the term failure … it leaves such a bad taste in ones mouth, but more importantly it forces people to make irrational decisions that come with some pretty hefty consequences.
As a financial coach, I see this more often than I’d like to, business owners refusing to understand how to identify when it’s time to move on because it’s not working. They’d rather dig a greater hole, and lose more money, than accept that it’s time to move on. And not moving on isn’t failing, it’s just a bad business decision.
So here is the thing … if a product, service or even business isn’t converting your products or service into cash that effectively sustains the running of your business without you having to continuously pour additional money into it … you need to either, as they say, shit or get off the pot.
If you can’t figure it out, don’t want to figure it out, refuse to figure it out … at least know when to call it a day. Because you will be bleeding cash if it’s not done right. And losing cash in this economy just ain’t going to be fun my friend! And certainly not when you have a real opportunity to make a change to improve your situation for the better. Let's chat about this. A x

She now has a Master’s degree in Business Management, over 10 years of running several businesses, with 2 successful businesses currently in tow …
Jada is doing things her way and making a difference to so many other aspiring business owners along the way.

EP95 : Our relationship with taxes and why tax is a good thing
What is it that "they" say … “A positive attitude gives you power over your circumstances instead of your circumstances having power over you” ..
Tax time … a friendly reminder that the tax man, who didn’t spend one hour contributing to our business for the last 12 months, needs to get paid! Normally when we dish out payments for services, we receive something in return. As business owners, tax time is the time of year we need to find cash from our hard earned businesses to line the tax mans pockets, with feelings of nothing to show for it.
Regardless of what business structure you are under, there is a tax to be paid on income earned. Now whilst I hate paying taxes just as much as the next guy ... here is the thing … you only pay tax on profits if you’re a company and on income levels if you’re a sole trader.
So I ask you … if you are paying tax, doesn’t that mean you made money? And if so, isn’t that a good thing? Let’s chat about this …. A x

EP94 : Superannuation and small business
Superannuation ... the portion of our earnings that is placed in a fund and typically held there for use after we retire. Employers are legally bound to pay this sum on behalf and as a term of employment of their employees ... but what if you're a business owner? This onus falls on you ...
If I had a dollar for every time a business owner told me that they hadn’t yet gotten around to paying themselves a wage, let alone any allocation for superannuation, I’d have a better retirement plan than I’d even planned for.
In this episode we explore the real impact of not considering superannuation as a cost in your business and how to change that so that you can start to plan for your future lifestyle. After all, you work hard as a business owner ... so should your money for your future. Take a listen. A x

EP93 : Why my Small Business Cashflow Course had to happen!
Alan Miltz said “Revenue is vanity, Profit is sanity and cash is king” … if you haven’t heard this version of the quote, no doubt if you’re a business owner the whole “cash is king” portion has come up once or twice. Why? Because in the game of chess, the King piece is the most important piece of which each player needs to checkmate (or strategically place) in order to win the game. And they only have once piece to do so.
Just like in business, we need to strategically use pieces we have available to us to ultimately arrange, strategically place or checkmate the final piece (or our cash) to reinvest back into our business and do it all again. Growth, profitability, pay ourselves a wage. How we use our cash, how we organise it … makes the world of difference. So that’s why I created my Small Business Cashflow Course .. A transformative skill set that will work, guaranteed, for your business and even if transferred right … can work in the personal management of your money also. Take a listen. A x

Bartering is not a new concept, it goes way back ... so it should come as no surprise that transactions that fall under this system are required to be reported to the ATO.
But as bartering is part of the small business community ... there is no reason to fear the obligations and requirements that comes with such transactions ... or most importantly, ignore them.

EP91 : Tenille Lawrence - Founder of Little Birdie Hair co

Tenille Lawrence, founder of Little Birdie Hair Co, definitely emulates pure determination and passion for her business and life and takes some time out of her extremely busy day to sit down and take a moment with me to share her business journey.

EP90 : The latest mistake I’ve made in my business
I've always been a perfectionist. But that clearly had to change when I started out in business. Wasn't an easy transition I can tell you, and even now I still get stuck in my own head about certain things that hold me back. I had to change my mindset to know that the very fear of making a mistake can be turned into action. And action creates steps forward ...
And Lord knows I've made plenty of mistakes on this business journey ... of which, all, upon reflection, have created new opportunities. But the latest mistake I've made has left me stumped for a lot longer than I wanted it to. I'll admit, that perfectionist in me has crept in a little here, but only because I just knew that correcting this mistake would mean a real game changer for the students of my Small Business Online Course. And that's been the motivating factor. But I think I'm on the right track and am (as we speak) making all the necessary changes needed to get it right.
The thing about this mistake is that it's been a real turning point for my business in general, and that's what has me excited the most. And I'm looking forward to seeing it all come to life. Come take a listen as to how I'm going to get this one right. A x

EP89 : Catfishing and Business
"There are things known and there are things unknown, and in between are the doors of perception." - Aldous Huxley
Catfishing, the term given to luring someone into a relationship based on a fictional persona. Whilst the term is relatively new in the scheme of things, the art of catfishing in business has been around for many decades. But with the rise of consumer choice through channels such as Social Media platforms, we are being bombarded with lures of all kinds, promises if you will, of outcomes that may or may not be entirely accurate. But how to tell the truth, or do we not want to know if the lure is desirable enough?
For some time now I've been convinced that my experience was enough in this game of being in business. But I'm learning very quickly that if you fall short of being a marketing expert or hiring a marketing expert, you will find a real battle on your hands for space. The real shortfall though, is there are so many "experts" that are making claims that can't be substantiated by real world experience, and the reputations of industries are getting hit hard as a result.
Do you or are you being catfished in business? And more importantly, how can you tell?
In this episode, I explore this notion whilst examining whether it's impact by perception. Whilst I speak to my knowledge in the coaching space, catfishing and business isn't reserved for just the coaching space and there are so many examples of this in every industry.
Join me as I explore this notion and discuss this concept in business and whether it's just part of being in business, or whether there is something we can do about it as a consumer. Take a listen. A x

EP88 : Erin Morris from Erin Morris Co.
As business owners our brand and voice is such an important part of the competitive landscape we find ourselves navigating. Doing it is one thing, but getting it done right is a whole other thing for which my guest Erin Morris is an expert in.
Erin Morris from Erin Morris Co, takes some time from her digital nomadic lifestyle to join me to discuss everything from brand stories, copywriting and why it's so important for businesses. We also explore email sequences, messaging and how the knowledge of Richard Branson getting Virgin (airline) off the ground (pardon the pun) in 3 months has made an impact on the way she values what she can achieve in 3 months.
It's a great in depth, conversation that certainly has forced me to rethink how I see my messaging and in particular how the term "hero" when it comes to website space takes on a whole other meaning. EP87 : How I use Canva for my business
“Absorb what is useful, reject what is useless, add what is specifically your own.” - Bruce Lee
It's almost like Bruce Lee was talking specifically about the amazing graphic design tool that is Canva. Used daily in my business, it provides me with a business strategy all unto itself. Let's face it ... I'm an accountant. Creativity isn't in my DNA ... so when something as simple and easy to use as Canva comes along to fill that gap for my business .. what's not to like.
When I started my business, over 11 years now, there was no Canva. You either used Photoshop or a Graphic Designer. I had no idea about Photoshop, so a Graphic Designer assumed the magic for me. But the limitation that presented as a small business owner just starting out, was that it prevented me from having the flexibility to create content as and when I needed it done. I needed to work to another persons schedule. And whilst that was the only option available to me at the time, it was tough to be consistent with getting my content out there.
Then came Canva ... what a shift. Whilst Graphic Designers still play a part in my business journey, Canva provides more flexibility for me to create content on my terms and in my time. But that's not all. Canva have such many benefits and ways in which I use it for my business .. take a listen. A x

EP86 : There are no shortcuts!
"Every shortcut has a price usually greater than the reward"
It becomes increasingly concerning with every facebook post, on every business forum when I see business owners completely consumed with sales, with social media, with funnels. Where are those business owners who are consumed by business success? Where are they asking for assistance to help them to create solid financial foundations in their business?
I know where they are... they are the ones too scared to look at their bank balances, are kept awake at night working out ways to make this game of being in business work. With not one consideration that the answer is under their noses ... know your numbers!
Instead, they choose very obviously to bypass this part of the framework needed to set up a successful business ... they take the short cut straight to selling. Straight to spending money on advertising, on setting up their instaworthy offices ... only to find themselves struggling right from day one to make money and make the money in their business count.
Stop taking shortcuts!!! What's the rush? The reality ... your business will be around longer if you take the time now. There is no need to rush. This episode is a timely reminder as we move into a new financial year, that it's never too late to get it right. But you need to trash this idea that you can simply bypass this part of the process, and embrace the new norm of taking the time to do things right. There are no shortcuts!
But, it comes with a warning. Only those serious about making real progress in their businesses need listen. Look around, because those you admire, those successful business owners ... they already know this stuff. Take a listen. A x

EP85 : Karen Ahl founder of Web-Sta & Business Growth Coach
"Consistent action creates consistent results" - Christine Kane
My guest on this episode epitomises the sentiment that consistent actions create consistent results. Karen Ahl, founder of Web-Sta (a bespoke web design agency) and Business Growth & Engagement Coaching, is putting in the reps when it comes to building not only two very successful businesses for herself, but also when it comes to her health and fitness.
Karen takes a moment out of her very business schedule to talk about establishing Web-Sta back in 2006 after taking on the rock climbing wall industry, and the natural transition from web design to being a Business Growth & Engagement Coach.
Throughout this episode we look at the 3 features every website should have, how the digital world has impacted brand loyalty to the place good old fashioned networking and referrals still have in business today.
We discuss the importance of choosing the right person for the job, and how mindset and consistency play a big part in running a successful business and personal pursuits such as health and fitness. You'll find everything from tamagotchi's (IYKYK) to body building in this episode ... so be sure to take a listen. A x

EP84 : Financial Forecasting Confidently
I know you've heard the term, I know you know it's something you really should be doing as a business owner, so why haven't you done so yet? In my experience a lot of it has to do with confidence, a lot to do with time and a hell of a lot to do with just not seeing any immediate purpose for it because you are busy with marketing, making sales and doing business.
Well my friend, now is the time to make time. There is such volatility in the market at the moment, consumer habits are changing and we are being forced to think differently. So why not start the change with a financial forecast to help you shape the future.
In this episode my conversation is centred around the foundations of financial forecasting and what benefits it can have on your business. How understanding various aspects of how your business operates, can make this process not only easier for you, but more effective. I talk fixed and variable components, pricing impact and controls, stress testing or scenario testing your business, being flexible and realistic along with importance of re-evaluating your assumptions for them to stay relevant.

EP83 : The motto I live by
If you had the opportunity to have access to the right information to positively change your lifestyle, the success of your business ... would you??
Or would you choose to not invest in it because you don't think it's worth it and you don't want to hear it??
What am I talking about? And what does this have to do with the motto I live by? In this episode, I talk about learning for the very first time the value of knowledge. How to use it to create strength and what power it has when you embrace it.
As a financial coach, this becomes prevalent in work I do every day with business owners .. You would think that there would be a resounding "YES" to the above question of "If you had the opportunity to have access to the right information to positively change your lifestyle the success of your business ... would you?" But sadly, this is met with a "NO", 9 times out of 10. Why? Because so many small business owners choose ... yes choose, to ignore the financial side of their business because they don't value it. They aren't the processors of the financial information in their business, they have an accountant or bookkeeper do that ... so they choose to not get involved in the "hows and whys".
Knowledge isn't reserved for the "so-called" experts ... as a business owner, knowing your numbers is imperative to the successful day to day running of a business. If this isn't of value to you yet ... perhaps this episode is worth a listen. Or more still, perhaps we need to have a chat.
But check this out first. A x

EP82 : Roberta Fairbanks from The Stylish Studio
Being a mum can often be a lonely and challenging time. Being a mum and business owner, even more so. My guest, Roberta Fairbanks knows a thing or two when it comes to rallying a strong community of women and business owners and has taken a moment out of her extremely business schedule to have a chat.
Roberta does it all .. an award winning marketing strategist, branding specialist, website designer, magazine editor, event planner, speaker and mum ... Roberta knows just what it takes to have resilience and drive in business. Having owned several very successful businesses, and recently having gone through a business breakup ... I was drawn to Roberta's strength and ownership when it came to telling it all like it is. She uses her social platforms to remain connected and candidly shares the highs and lows of her journey through this beautiful life.
In this episode, we discuss the importance of setting boundaries, passion and aligning that to our purpose, the importance of a supportive community and showing up as our authentic selves. In addition, we chat about how competition can push us to our next level and how going through the pain, rather than avoiding it ... reminds us of our purpose.

EP81 : The greatest piece of advice I’ve received
I love me a "thought for the day" ... I started posting them on my socials back when I started my business about 11 years ago now. The idea to do this was spawn from the actual even of starting a business. You know how it goes ... everyone has something to say when you embark on something as monumental as this starting a business, and so it started out with me wanting to share some of that wisdom with those in my social community ... you know, share the love. It turned into a daily occurrence, even all these years later ... they include everything from funny, to business related and most importantly, those that have profound impact on my life.
But the greatest piece of advice I got came long before I was to start my business, in fact, it was when I was in university, my first year actually. And it's this piece of advice that I have carried with me, both professionally and personally for such a long time.

EP80 : Money Mindset Myths
Snoop Dogg once said ... "I've got my mind on my money and my money on my mind" ... Whilst he isn't hailed one of the masterminds of this area of expertise, you can't deny that he has a really good point! ...
Money and mindset go hand in hand, and I know you already know that!
As a financial coach I see this all too often .. many business owners convinced that they just aren't good with money because maths wasn't their best subject in school. Now whilst that's a watered down version of the many conversations I've had with business owners over the years, the one thing remains constant, there is a real problem with mindset when it comes to money and in particular business owners wanting to participate in the financial side of their business.
For some reason there is this real fear, or even disregard for the importance of knowing more about this in our businesses. And for all the power that it holds, I'm surprised time and time again when this isn't the first thing business owners want to know when they start a business.
There are many reasons this problem is created, and throughout this episode I explore a few of them along with of course providing nuggets of valuable ways we can shift this mindset and these blocks for run more financial freeing businesses. Check out the conversation here.

EP79 : Kim Gray of Kim Gray Consulting
"Almost every successful person begins with two beliefs : the future can be better than the present, and I have the power to make it so." - Unknown
Mindset is such a powerful thing, and in this episode I get to sit down with Mindset Coach Kim Gray. Kim hales from over 30 years experience in the education sector, and has recently moved in to the mindset space with the goal of inspiring as many women as she can during this journey. With a focus on personal development and wellbeing, Kim is driven to motivate and inspire those in search of their own clarity and empowerment in their lives.
Living a life by design is a goal of most .. throughout this episode, Kim tells me all about how her world aligned thanks to a fateful email reminder, taking her to where she now gets to live hers. We discuss how we have the choice to our life and how it's important to stay true to ourselves. As well as so much more! So be sure to take a listen. A x

EP78 : One of the biggest mistakes made when working with a business coach
"There are some people who sign up for the goal, but don't sign up for the discomfort that comes with achieving the goal."
Being in business is hard ... choosing the right "team" to work with you can be even harder. With the term "Coach" more prevalent than ever, coaches are under the spotlight when it comes to deliverables. And in many cases rightfully so.
But the role of a coach often becomes blurred with the expectations placed upon them. Whilst it is a coach's responsibility to "instruct, direct or prompt", many lose sight of the effort required on their part to achieve the goals as promised by the coach or coaching program.
And here in lies the problem. Let's explore this further. A x

EP77 : 3 Ways Trello keeps me organised
If you are anything like me and love a good organising system, or if you're not and would like to try one, I recommend Trello.
Traditionally a pen and paper kind of gal, I found that the more my business evolved, and the busier I got, having numerous note pads laying around just didn't cut it. I needed something that I could have on hand, and that would be easy enough to organise everything in the one spot.
It wasn't an easy transition for me going digital like this, but it's one of the best things I could have done for my business and if I'm being honest, for life in general.
So in this episode, I just wanted to showcase how I use Trello for my business. I understand that every business is different, therefore this isn't a "do it this way" kind of episode. But more of a "this is how I use it, perhaps you may need something like this to assist you also" kind of episode.
Be sure to take a listen, you just never know what kind of organising spark it might ignite in you to assist you in this area of your business. A x

EP75 : 10 things to make the last quarter count in your business!
It's April. It's the beginning of the last quarter of our financial year here in Australia. And it's no time to put the brakes on in your business!!!!
In all the years I've been doing this, I have seen many business owners get to April and convince themselves that it's time to start gearing up for the new financial year, and winding down from the one coming to an end. STOP!!
Mindset is such a powerful tool to achieving the results you want, and it's no different now. You still have 3 months, 12 weeks, 90 days to make a huge impact on your business results and on your cashflow ... so now is certainly not the right time to slow down and wrap up.
In this episode, coming at cha with the high energy you should have right now, I take you through the 10 things you can do right now to make the last quarter of this financial year count!!
This should keep your energy up, your goals on track and you busy for now! Go make it count my friend!! A x

EP74 : The 5 mistakes I made when starting my business
I often joke about leaving my 9-5 job to open my business so that I can work 24/7. But is it really a joke. This statement is false in two parts ... the first, since entering the world of corporate finance, I have never worked a 9-5 job EVER. And the second was that it was a joke ... because it is no joke. There are moments where I feel like I work 24/7 and moments when I actually do. And perhaps this is the first mistake all these leading coaches will tell me, that I'm making ... but when you run a business, when you are passionate about something like I am about what I do, there have been plenty of mistakes I've made along the way, but I don't think this is one of them. So join me as we unpack this ...

EP73 : Michelle Crutcher (Business Coach)
My guest on this episode is no stranger when it comes to dealing with small business ... Michelle Crutcher has had over 20 years business experience working for some of the largest global organisations in the procurement space. Having had seen the struggles and challenges small businesses face when trying to compete with large organisations she is on a mission to help small businesses become more competitive in their market whilst creating profitable and sustainable businesses that fuels their purpose and passion and lights them up every day.
I first met Michelle last year, when we both embarked on the journey to take our talents and businesses online. I clicked with Michelle immediately due to our joint love of bringing big business thinking to small business owners. In this episode, Michelle and I not only talk about her new program the "Business Growth Mindset" | a 3 month Online Program designed to take your business to the next level and set you up for profit and sustainability, but also time management, procrastination in business and travelling to Italy.
It's a great episode packed sure to get you thinking about how you run your business and whether there is room for improvement.

EP72 : Mum guilt and running a business
In my lifetime I have been an accountant, a CPA member, a CFO, a Director of Possibilities, a Commercial Manager, a CEO, a Financial Coach .. but the minute I gave birth to my son, the only title that seemed to matter to the outside world was "Mum". And perhaps a little more internal than I gave it credit for. But essentially from the moment I met my son .. my world and my perception of me in it changed. I was flung into a feeling of guilt I'd never felt before.
Guilt because my business was where I felt more at home, more drawn to ... but I now have a child that needs me, that I love more than any other love I've known before .. but there just isn't enough hours in the day to be everything for everyone.
This episode is a glimpse into how my world changed when I had my son. How every day since has been a combination of carrying my laptop around to get a moment of work in between my duties as a mum, how I feel the most aligned to my work whilst still figuring this mum stuff out and of course the steps that I take on a daily basis to combat these feelings.
I know I'm not alone in this .. and perhaps this is my way of changing the narrative, changing the words .. eliminating the term guilt and just recognising that more needs to be done to ensure that we educate our children along with ourselves on the premise that there is a human side to being a mum and how we have more outside of our "mum" world and that we have other things we need to attend to.
Take a listen ... let me know what you think. A x

EP71 : It’s time to stop asking small business to give you shit for free! ENOUGH!
Whilst I have the pleasure of working with business owners on their financial strategies, the downside to this type of work is understanding the financial pressures and pains that business owners go through. Downside only from the point of view that I really wish they didn't have to go through such pain to get to a better place. So it pains me to no end, when I see on various forums like Facebook groups, business owners asking for something either for little fee or worst still ... for free! Really? I call time on this! It's time to start to value small business more.
... let’s chat about this. A x

EP70 : Charelle Griffith - Marketing Strategist
Charelle Griffith is a Business and Marketing Strategist for coaches, consultants and service-based business owners. With a passion for supporting solopreneurs and small business owners, Charelle focuses on taking the overwhelm out of marketing and instead creates marketing strategies that help her clients to shine online, consistently create content that converts, and ultimately build a thriving business that supports the lifestyle they desire. Charelle is also an award-winning book blogger and Founder of PropelHer’s Book Club.
In an online conversation I had with Charelle late last year, Charelle was telling me how she'd recently gone through the process of changing up some of her services, including her pricing strategy, yet still maintaining a targeted and in her words "dreamy" client base. Charelle stopped by to talk all things content creation, pricing strategies, the changes she has recently made to her service offerings and pricing and who she would have play her in a movie about her life.

In this episode, we explore the 3 main types of business finance available and what they each mean for your business structure and funding needs.

EP68 : Henry (Hank) Paul from Henry Paul Photography
Henry (Hank) Paul from Henry Paul Photography is a full-time wedding photographer and educator based in Sydney, Australia, specialising in sustainable and inclusive weddings. He is a lover of board games, indoor plants and all forms of fried potato as well as the co-host of the Profit on the Margins podcast, author of the book "Queer-Owned", and creator of Queer Wedding Ally Training.
I first met Hank through an online course I'd signed up for in 2021, and became instantly aware of how incredibly important his message, work and friendship were in my life. And when I find something or someone incredible, I can't help but want to share.
I am grateful that Hank joined me for this episode where we discuss getting started in business, being authentically ourselves, Queer Ally Training and why it's an important message, the joy of continuous learning and who would play him in a movie about his life and why.
We packed so much into this episode, it was so much fun

EP67 : To raise prices or not to raise prices, that is the question!
If you've ever found yourself continually dipping into your personal bank account to fund anything for your business, I can bet that it's because you haven't got your pricing right! If you are constantly delaying creditor payments, or dread the "money shuffle" as I call it. You know the process I'm talking about, where you move money around so much trying to juggle due dates, that you make your own head spin. Again, I hate to tell you my friend, but you're pricing is off. It has to be!! After listening to this episode, you will definitely be able to identify whether you are ready to raise prices in your business and how you can tackle this transition. Be sure to take a listen. A x

EP66 : 5 Ways to start the year off right! 2022, I’m coming for ya!
“Fall down seven times, stand up eight.” The Japanese proverb, meaning choosing to never give up hope, and to always strive for more. Focusing not on the reality in front of you, but on that which may not be reality yet. 2022, I’m starting you right, and I’m excited for what’s to come ...
After a tough 2021 ... I took some time and reflected on what was needed to come back in 2022 stronger and better than ever before. And during that reflection I realised that there were 5 strategies I needed to implement to start this year off right.
So in my first episode back for 2022 ... and as I put 2021 in that box marked ”toughest year in business” ... I’m sharing the 5 ways I’m going to start this year right.
Whilst I’m sure this list isn’t definitive by any means, I know I can’t go wrong if I at least start here ...
